SALTS (Student Action Leadership Teams)
All students in Year 6 are involved in a student leadership team that targets its action on a specific area within the school, local or international community.
The school community supports the concept of leadership experiences and training being available to all students, not just a chosen few.
Each year the students have a leadership conference and four leadership breakfasts where guest speakers from the community talk to the students about their own leadership experiences.
Students are grouped in teams of 10 to 12 with supervision by teachers in the development of an annual project focus. The students work on this area of project for 12 months, and take a lead role in working across the community in their area.
Generally these areas have involved the following area:
- Health and Physical Education
- Creative Arts (Music & Art)
- Multimedia Presentations
- International Welfare
- Sustainability
- School-wide operations
At the Year 6 Graduation evening each team of students presents their years work to the community.
Through this program we hope to develop:
- Skills in teamwork
- Leadership as a shared experience
- Action related to real world examples
- A sense of pride and personal responsibility
Students overall are very enthusiastic and motivated to participate in this program.
